Why Geall?
When I started working in tech, I realised how little practical guidance there was on growing a career and building wealth. That gap is why I created Geall.
Nobody teaches you how to negotiate pay, grow your compensation, or how to invest your earnings without getting lost in jargon. Side projects get talked about a lot, but usually in a “go quit your job and build a startup” kind of way. That never felt realistic to me.
I wanted something simpler: clear advice, examples in plain English, and tools that make this stuff less intimidating. That's why I started Geall.
Geall means promise in Irish — I chose it because that's what this site is about: my promise to share what I've figured out so far, and a small commitment you can make to yourself to help move the needle.
I'm not claiming to have all the answers (far from it). This site is just me sharing what's worked (and what hasn't) in my own career and savings journey up to this point, in case it helps someone else avoid the same mistakes.
Geall focuses on three areas I wish I had more guidance on earlier:
- Earn more — understanding how to grow compensation and negotiate fairly in the tech industry
- Invest simply — using simple, low-cost Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and automation to build long-term wealth
- Build on the side — small projects that create options without needing to “go all in”
If this site helps you make progress on even one of those, then it's a win.
